The first installment in our Radcliffe Book Talks series features Lauren Groff RI ’19, author of Brawler (Penguin Random House, 2026), a collection of short stories that explore struggles between love and fear, compassion and violence, reason and instinct, and altruism and what it takes to survive.

Speaker(s): Lauren Groff, Groff is the New York Times–bestselling author of the novels The Monsters of Templeton (Hachette Book Group, 2008), Arcadia (Hachette Book Group, 2013), Fates and Furies (Penguin Random House, 2015), Matrix (Penguin Random House, 2021), and the Vaster Wilds (Penguin Random House, 2023) and of the celebrated short story collections Delicate Edible Birds (Hachette Book Group, 2009) and Florida (Penguin Random House, 2018). Groff has won the American Booksellers Association's Indies Choice Book Award, France’s Grand Prix de l’Héroïne, the Joyce Carol Oates Prize, and the Story Prize and has been a finalist three times for the National Book Award. In addition to her Radcliffe fellowship, Groff has received fellowships from the American Academy in Berlin and the Guggenheim Foundation and the Howard D. Vursell Memorial Award by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She was named to Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list in 2024. Groff is a graduate of Amherst College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received her MFA, and she now resides in Gainesville, Florida, where she co-owns an independent bookstore, The Lynx.
