The third installment in our Radcliffe Book Talk series features Tayari Jones RI ’12, author of Kin (Penguin Random House, 2026), a novel about two lifelong friends from Louisiana whose bond as they grow into adulthood is tested by class, loss, and the realities of the Jim Crow South.

Speaker(s): Tayari Jones is the bestselling author of An American Marriage (Hachette Book Group, 2018), an Oprah’s Book Club Selection that was awarded the Aspen Words Literary Prize, an NAACP Image Award, and the Women’s Prize for Fiction. She is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers and has been the recipient of the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, Lifetime Achievement Award in Fine Arts from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, United States Artist Fellowship, NEA Fellowship, and Guggenheim Fellowship. Her third novel, Silver Sparrow (Algonquin Book, 2011), was added to the NEA Big Read Library of Classics in 2016. Other acclaimed works include Leaving Atlanta (Grand Central Publishing, 2003) and The Untelling (Grand Central Publishing, 2006). A graduate of Spelman College, the University of Iowa, and Arizona State University, Jones is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University.
