Davyd Chychkan. Ukrainian soldiers with ribbons

“With Ribbons and Flags” is the last project by Ukrainian artist and activist Davyd Chychkan (1986-2025). He created this graphic series in 2022-2024, before volunteering to fight on the frontline himself. His images represent the participants of the anarchist and anti-authoritarian left movements who are currently fighting in this war or have already died defending Ukraine. Chychkan’s artistic career was marked by politically and socially engaged art, and these works depict the diverse political views of those fighting for Ukraine. “With Ribbons and Flags” was exhibited around Ukraine, beginning in March 2022, until the artist was mortally wounded in combat. Davyd Chychkan died from wounds in a Zaporizhzhya hospital on August 10, 2025.
