In this photomontage, a smiling young woman gestures toward a jug that appears to float. Printed in black on the jug’s surface is a Black man gesturing toward his chained wrist and the words “AM NOT I A MAN AND A BROTHER.”

On this tour, Priya Allen ’27 will explore the design and politics of historical drinking vessels and containers. The stops on the tour are a Persian jug from the 9th–10th century; a British abolition jug (c. 1810–20); and a samovar designed by Marianne Brandt in the Bauhaus metal workshop in Germany in 1925.
