In this photomontage, a smiling young woman stands in a park by a pedestrian bridge gesturing toward a painting that appears to float. It shows a colorful crowd of people jostling inside a large church.

On this tour, Jide Anekwe ‘28 will look at the significance of color in the ancient Mediterranean world and at modern perceptions of the past. The stops on the tour are: Portrait of a woman, a painting from Roman Imperial Egypt (c. 130–150 CE); Youthful hero or god, a marble sculpture from Imperial Rome (1st–2nd century CE) after a Greek sculpture by Skopas from the fourth century BCE; and William Holman Hunt’s painting The Miracle of the Sacred Fire, Church of the Holy Sepulchre (1892–99).
