A black-and-white archival photograph shows a woman standing in the center of a room while a group of people lie on the floor around her, suggesting a guided workshop or consciousness-raising session

Join us for a tour of Carmen Winant: Double Jeopardy with the curator Meg Rotzel to learn about the artist’s research process to create this exhibition. With a practice anchored in archival research and the reimagination of feminist material histories, the artist Carmen Winant is celebrated for large-scale collage installations and artist’s books that recontextualize existing photographic imagery. In Double Jeopardy, she extends her inquiry to video by digitizing and applying her collagist strategies to more than 200 cassettes held in storage by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV)—footage that has been unseen for decades. On the tour you will learn how Winant has paired the NCADV footage with material from Radcliffe’s Schlesinger Library and documents from the personal archive of activist Yolanda Bako to create the artwork on view.
